Wordsworth’s famous definition of poetry as a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings has always held good for the entire body of literature from times immemorial. The written text has always engaged the human mind, and provided it with a canvas to display the innermost emotional responses, perspectives, and interpretations of life in the human mind. The practice of reading a book has always held the foremost position, not only in the process of acquiring vast knowledge, but also in influencing the lives and world-view of its readers. In the modern scenario of ever-changing technologies, AI has touched and permeated every single aspect of the human world. Literature too has not been left unaffected by the influence of AI. Literature, which always involved human creativity, emotional connection, and deep thinking, is now available at a click of a button. Reactions and emotions are now AI mediated. The nuances of the human heart are now replaced by responses processed by electronic tools. So, the question pertinently arises- Has AI permeated and destroyed the essence and purpose of Literature as a mode of deep and contemplative human expression? The task to strike a balance between the accessibility of literature globally with the help of AI, and a slow and deep inculcation of knowledge and literature into the human psyche, as well as the spontaneous reaction to it, has become a matter of great concern and debate in the present times. The hypothesis of the paper is that if used with moderation and rationalism, AI can prove to be an immense boost to the process of both creating and accessing literature across countries and traditions by transcending linguistic boundaries. It will help immensely in translations, erasing the vast gaps between different languages and bringing about cross-cultural communication. By streamlining the process of generating reading lists and manuscripts, AI will definitely augment the human potential in the field of the art of writing.
