Abstract

Nanostructured materials, with dimensions in the region of 1100 nm, display special mechanical, chemical, and physical properties due to quantum confinement and significant surface-to-volume ratios. These materials have transformed various areas of life like electronics, energy, healthcare and environmental science. This review concentrates on the dimensionality-based classification method of nanomaterials, their broad-based uses and their emergent use in biomedical sector. It also throws light on modern developments in the methods of synthesis and their effect on the performance properties. A thorough literature review of 2015-2024 is provided to examine the recent trends in nanotechnology, especially in its applications in the cosmetic industry, water purification, gas sensory, and memory devices. Although there has been tremendous progress, issues like toxicity, environmental impact and standardization are critical issues. This research will help to develop the effective, safe, and sustainable nanotechnology-based solutions by providing a structured insight into nanostructured materials, their applications and future perspectives.
